Renting on Craigs List

With the invention of Craig's List, it has made it much easier to buy, sell, or trade items, rent, buy, or sell homes, find jobs, or even a date. But with all the good, the bad follows close behind. While most postings are legitimate and forthright, some are not. We at Realty Executives Meade and Associates, Inc. want you to be well informed before deciding to rent a property through Craig's List. Realty Executives Meade and Associates, Inc. does post rental listings on Craig's List. Our property management software, Buildium, generates a specific looking ad and an example can be found below.

Our ads will always display the property address, our phone number (334-347-7334), and a link to our website (www.meadeandassociates.net).  You will also always find the words "Powered by Buildium property management software" at the bottom of the ad. If the ad posted you are looking at does not resemble the ad above and contain all of the information above, then Realty Executives Meade and Associates, Inc. did not list the ad and can not be held responsible for any fraudulent activity.

Remember these simple rules to avoid being scammed.

  • Only deal with people that can meet you in person.
  • Never wire funds Western Union, Money Gram, or another like service.
  • Fake cashier's checks and money orders are common, and banks will cash them and hold you responsible when the fake is discovered weeks later.
  • Never give out financial information (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
  • Avoid deals with shipping or escrow services and know that no transaction can be guaranteed.
  • Do not rent housing without seeing the interior or buy items sight-unseen - in all likelihood that housing unit is not actually for rent and that cheap item does not exist.
  • Do not submit to credit or background checks without meeting the person/agent first.

ALWAYS REMEMBER, IF IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, THEN IT USUALLY IS!
