2025 Lexus NX: Choosing the Right Trim (2024)

If you don’t need acres of interior space in your next luxury SUV, consider the benefits of the compact Lexus NX. It offers the luxury of larger Lexus SUVs in a more manageable size and price. Better still, the NX offers a choice of engines, including a hybrid and plug-in hybrid option. There are even two trims decked out with the performance-oriented F Sport package.

Except for the entry-level NX 250, all trims come standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), an optional enhancement to the front-wheel drive (FWD) base model.

As more empty nesters look to downsize, manufacturers have flooded the segment with worthy rivals, including the Range Rover Evoque, Buick Envista, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. As appealing as some competitors may seem, few, if any, can match the NX for resale, reliability, and overall owner satisfaction, something to keep in mind when comparing apples to apples.

Let’s delve deeper and see which 2025 Lexus NX trim is right for you.

2025 Lexus NX 250: $41,765 (FWD), $43,365 (AWD)

The entry-level NX 250 is ideal for buyers uninterested in lightning-fast sprints or maximum fuel economy. It comes standard with FWD, and AWD is a $1,600 option. The NX 250 features a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 203 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite of driver assists, the NX 250 touts forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.

There’s also a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and a system to detect when it’s unsafe to make a left turn across traffic and apply the brakes. Intuitive Parking Assist with Braking features front and rear parking sensors to warn when getting too close to an object. If the driver fails to slow, the system automatically activates the brakes.

Safe Exit Assist watches for cars or bikes approaching from the rear. When detected, the system warns exiting passengers with an audible alert and prevents the doors from opening until the coast is clear.

Lexus Safety Connect can call for help in an accident or help police locate a stolen car. It’s a subscription service with a 10-year free trial period.

The NX 250 may be entry-level, but it’s far from sparse. The price includes 18-inch 15-spoke alloy wheels, bi-LED auto on/off headlights, roof rails, a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, heated outside mirrors with tilt-down in reverse, and a driver’s side auto-dimming feature.

Lexus’ SmartAccess allows the driver to unlock the doors and start the car without removing the key fob from their purse or pocket.

Inside the NX 250, we find NuLuxe synthetic leather upholstery, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support, an 8-way power passenger seat, and heated front seats.

Dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, a leather-wrapped shift knob, one-touch up/down power windows, and a 60/40-split power-folding rear seat are also included.

The NX infotainment setup includes a 9.8-inch touchscreen with cloud-based navigation, Lexus assistant (say, “Hey, Lexus” to activate), SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and wireless integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also serves as the display for the rear backup camera.

A 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound System is standard.

Optional packages for the NX 250 include the Premium Package ($1,925), which adds heated and ventilated front seats, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, driver’s seat memory (includes mirror and steering wheel positions), a foot-activated power liftgate with kick sensor, and a power moonroof.

Individual options include a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen upgrade, a wireless charging pad, a power moonroof, a heated steering wheel, heated wiper blade de-icers, a fast response interior heater, and a head-up display.

The list goes on to include a digital rearview mirror, a panoramic 360-degree monitor, lane-change assist, front cross-traffic detection, steering wheel touch sensors, Lexus Digital Key (turns your phone into a key), and an 1,800-watt, 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio system.

The NX 250 can tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped.
