What is the point of backpack straps gw2? ›

The straps are used for applying the texture of a higher level back item skin onto lower level characters. One would equip the Backpack Straps, open Hero panel, select Wardrobe, select the Back Item slot, and then select the skin they want to display.

However, back items may also be acquired from various vendors, as personal story and living story rewards, from using the Mystic Forge, and through crafting disciplines (starting at level 1). From completing the personal story quests: Armor Guard, Conscript the Dead Ships, and Air Drop.

Back items of exotic and lower rarity can use jewels and universal upgrades as upgrade components, while ascended versions can be infused.

Crafter's backpacks are a group of craftable back items with six different skins for each crafting discipline. Like all leveling equipment, they are account-bound with slightly better stats than standard for their effective level and item rarity.
