What does the Community Development CDC assist with?

The Community Development Division is one of five divisions within Fort Wayne City Government. There are four departments within the Community Development Division:

· Community Planning and Policy

· Neighbourhood Code Enforcement

· Office of Housing and neighbourhood Services

· Redevelopment

Business Grant

The City of Fort Wayne currently doesn't offer grants for start-up businesses. However, there are occasional programs throughout the year for business grant programs, primarily the Facade program....

Business License

There are no general business licensing requirements with the City and County. It's recommended you visit the City's website www.cityoffortwayne.org/business.html and review the "Starting a Business" brochure, as well as the "Licenses, Permits and Taxes" guide.

Businesses need to register with the Allen County Recorder's office if your business will be setup as sole proprietor or with the Secretary of state (www.in.gov/sos) if business will be setup as corporation, LLC,LLP,etc.

Child Care Business

For child care provided in the home, the childcare provider must hold a valid license from the State of Indiana. This term includes a Class I Child Care Home and a Class II Child Care Home which are defined as follows:

1. Class I Child Care Home - A childcare home that serves up to 12 children at any time. The children may be at the home on either a part time or full time basis.

2. Class II Child Care Home - A childcare home that serves more than 12 but not more than 16 children at any time. The children may be at the home on either a part time or full time basis.

Record Business

Record your business name with the Allen County Recorder's office located in the Rousseau Building (City/County Bldg.), if your business will be setup as sole proprietor.

You also need to record your business name with the Secretary of State which can be done online at www.in.gov/sos, if business will be setup as corporation, LLC, LLP, etc.

Minority or Woman Owned Business

Contact Kelly Lundberg with Contract Compliance and the State of Indiana (www.in.gov) and refer to the city's website www.cityoffortwayne.org/contract-compliance-home.html for certification instructions.

Retail Merchant Certificate

Contact the Indiana Dept. of Revenue at 260-436-5663 1415 Magnavox Way, or website www.in.gov/dor.

Business in Home

You will need to speak with the Dept of Planning Services (land use/zoning) to ensure your business can be run in your home and/or if it will change your zoning classification. There are penalties if a business is run out of a home and the residential zoning is incorrect and/or not reviewed and/or approved by the zoning appeals.

They work hand in hand with various banks, community organizations and local government to offer low interest rate commercial loans.
