Is RPI a prestigious school? ›

What is the acceptance rate for RPI? RPI admissions is somewhat selective with an acceptance rate of 65%. Students that get into RPI have an average SAT score between 1360-1520 or an average ACT score of 30-34. The regular admissions application deadline for RPI is January 15.

Rensselaer policy prohibits any student from possessing an open container of alcohol in any public space, even if the student is 21 or older. Drinking games promote the abuse of alcohol and are therefore prohibited on campus, regardless of age.

In terms of academics, it's pretty tough and most professors are good.

Rensselaer is recognized as one of the world's elite technological research universities. The Institute was founded in 1824 to instruct students ''in the application of science to the common purposes of life.

It is a mid-size institution with an enrollment of 5,838 undergraduate students. Admissions is somewhat competitive as the RPI acceptance rate is 65%. Popular majors include Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering.

In S&P's 2017 press release announcing the downgrading of RPI's rating to BBB+, it cited RPI's high debt burden and low financial resources as primary reasons. In Moody's 2018 credit opinion, it cited RPI's high debt burden, high debt service costs, and thin liquidity as the key credit challenges for the Institute.
