Lakers vs. Warriors final score, results: Los Angeles eliminates Golden State in Game 6 to reach Western Conference Finals | Sporting News (2024)

Is the Warriors dynasty over?

The Los Angeles Lakers have ended Golden State's championship defense with a 122-101 Game 6 victory.

The Lakers jumped out to an early 17-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back. LeBron James completely controlled the pace of play with 30 points and nine assists, while Anthony Davis dominated the interior with 17 points and 20 rebounds.

Stephen Curry scored a game-high 32 points, but the only backup the 35-year-old got was from Donte DiVincenzo, who popped off the bench for 16 points.

Klay Thompson was hoping to bounce back from a 3-of-12 shooting night in Game 5, but it didn't happen for the 10-year NBA veteran. Thompson was way off the boil to finish with figures of just eight points on 3-of-19 from the field.

Jordan Poole has struggled all playoffs and this Game 6 was no exception. The streaky guard spent the majority of the contest in foul trouble, sputtering to seven points on 3-of-10 shooting.

LeBron's Lakers become the first Western Conference team to eliminate the Warriors from the playoffs in the Steve Kerr era.

After this loss, huge questions linger over the future of this incarnation of the Warriors franchise. The Lakers on the other hand move on to the Western Conference Finals to take on the Denver Nuggets.

Lakers vs. Warriors updates, highlights from Game 6

Final: Lakers 122, Warriors 101

12:46 a.m. — The final buzzer rings out at Crypto.com Arena and the crowd goes wild. There will be no Game 7. The end score was 122-101.

LeBron James finished with 30 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Anthony Davis was a handful for the smaller Warriors all game with 17 points and 20 rebounds.

Steph Curry was a lone bright spot for the Warriors with 32 points, while Klay Thompson was a big disappointment totaling just eight points on 3-of-19 shooting.

The Warriors' championship defense comes to an unceremonious end in Los Angeles.

12:40 a.m.— Steve Kerr is calling it. Both teams' bench units have hit the floor. The 2022/23 NBA Conference Finals look set to feature two Play-In teams. The Lakers in the West and Miami Heat in the East.

12:40 a.m.— The crowd is waiting for an excuse to explode. Steve Kerr looks poised to raise the white flag and clear the benches. Steph covers his head in his towel, hurting after glancing up at the scoreboard: 116-97.

12:37 a.m.— Draymond Green is sitting on the bench with right calf tightness. It's being reported that his return is "unlikely". Green departs the game with nine points, nine rebounds and three assists.

12:33 a.m.— The Warriors lethargically dribble the ball around the arc before findingDiVincenzo for an unlikely three-point attempt. It misses and the Lakers take timeout up 110-88 with under six minutes remaining.

12:30 a.m.— LeBron snatches down the Steph Curry miss and motors the other way, throwing a no-look shovel pass toRui Hachimura for the fast break slam. The Lakers are in total control of this game.

12:16 a.m.— This Lakers crowd can sense it. They are starting to bubble with excitement. LeBron goes to the line and splits a pair of free throws to make it a 20-point game in favour of Los Angeles with just under nine minutes remaining.

12:16 a.m.— LeBron spins off of Andrew Wiggins in the post and lays the ball in. Hoop plus the harm. Lakers go up by 15. Teammate D'Angelo Russell stands over LeBron flexing while James writhes on the floor in pain after taking a shot to the face from Wiggins. 95-80.

12:16 a.m.— Draymond Green picks up his fifth foul and heads to the bench. The Lakers crowd celebrates Green's every step towards and along the sideline.

End of third quarter: Lakers 91, Warriors 77

12:10 a.m. — The Lakers are poised to eliminate the reigning champions up 91-77.

LeBron James has been clinical in his dissection of this game. He has 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Outside of Steph Curry (26 PTS) the Warriors have few consistent scoring options. Extremely worrying for Golden State is the fact that they are 0-27 when trailing at the end of the third quarter this season.

12:00 a.m.— The stars are out in Hollywood!Twitter CEO Elon Musk is courtside along with Kim Kardashian,LeonardoDiCaprio and Michael B. Jordan. Superstar musician Bad Bunny has been spotted with Kendall Jenner while Jack Nicholson is in his usual seat.

11:55 p.m.— James throws it up to Davis for the alley-oop finish and Crypto.com erupts! But the celebration is short-lived as Dennis Schroder is assessed his second technical foul after Draymond Green pushes the ball in his face. It's hard to see why the Lakers' guard was tossed for that action.

11:49 p.m.— LeBron James rings up 21 points with a galloping layup in transition. The Lakers match their largest lead of the game, going ahead by 17 points with scores at 70-53.

11:43 p.m.— No letup from the Lakers to start the third quarter. Russell nails a three and now Davis gets on the glass to set the standard 66-53.

11:41 p.m.— And away we go in the third quarter. Will the Lakers finish off the reigning champions?

Halftime: Lakers 56, Warriors 46

11:31 p.m.— LeBron James leads all scorers with 15 points, while Anthony Davis has been a menace on the boards with 12 rebounds. Austin Reeves has been the difference maker for the Lakers with 13 points on 67% from the field.

Predictably,Steph Curry has been the Warriors' best with 12 points. Off the bench, Donte DiVincenzo has provided a much-needed spark with 10 points.

If they're to force a Game 7 Golden State will need more from Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole. Thompson has just 8 points on 3-of-13 shooting, while Poole is scoreless with four fouls and a turnover.

11:24 p.m.— A horror stretch to end the half for the Warriors. Klay Thompson misses on a three-point attempt, DiVincenzo collects the offensive rebound, but his put back is blocked by Davis. The ball then finds its way to Reeves who fires up a prayer from beyond halfcourt that goes down as time expires! The Lakers lead 56-46 at the halftime break.

11:19 p.m.— Poole picks up his fourth foul on a moving screen and heads to the bench.

11:16 p.m.— Jordan Poole picks up his third foul trying to defend LeBron on the perimeter, sending James to the line. Poole has struggled all Playoffs and his woes continue tonight - zero points so far. Lakers up 49-39.

11:07 p.m.— Austin Reeves crosses up Steph Curry and drops the leaner in the lane plus the foul. Reeves makes the extra and the Lakers go ahead 42-33. What a play by Austin Powers!

11:02 p.m.— Donte DiVincenzo lays it up and in for his 10th point in less than nine minutes of court time. The Warriors still trail 37-33 with just over eight minutes left, but behind DiVincenzo's impact off the bench they look to be building momentum.

10:56 p.m.— Unforgivable turnover in the backcourt by Draymond Green. Vanderbilt picks it off and dunks it down with ease. The Lakers are steady, going up 34-26.

End of first quarter: Lakers 31, Warriors 26

10:52 p.m.— At quarter time the Lakers lead by five points. Anthony Davis has a near double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, while Steph Curry was incredible for the Warriors with 12 points. The big worry for Golden State is the cold shooting from the outside;Klay and Steph are a combined 2-of-10.

10:47 p.m.— LeBron commits a careless turnover, Curry collects it off the deck, goes the other way and flips the finger roll up and over James for the hoop and the harm. Steph and the Warriors trim a 17-point deficit to just seven (31-24).

10:43 p.m.— Steph drives the lane, takes the contact from Reeves and connects on the crazy layup plus the foul. Curry makes the extra free throw and Golden State will be hoping to gain some momentum from that one-of-a-kind finish.

What a shot by Steph 🤯

10:38 p.m.— Klay Thompson misses a three and the Warriors are now 1-of-11 from the outside. Davis collects the defensive rebound, he has eight already! Golden State trails by 15.

10:38 p.m.— Austin Reeves nails a three in the corner and Kerr is again forced into a timeout to stop the bleeding. L.A. is on fire! They've connected on 9-of-12 from the field to take a 27-10 lead with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter.

10:32 p.m.— The Lakers are punishing the smaller lineup of the Warriors. LeBron is getting touches in the post, while AD is active in the lane and on the boards (four rebounds). As a result of the intensity Draymond Green and Payton II each have two early fouls.

10:20 p.m.— Schroder hits a big three and Steve Kerr is forced to call timeout. The Lakers are off to a fast start, jumping out to a 15-7 lead. James, Davis, Russell and Schroder are all on the board and the Lakers are yet to miss (6-of-6 from the field). Austin Reeves is the only Lakers starter yet to score.

10:20 p.m.— Lakers win the tip and this Game 6 is underway!

10:00 p.m.— The Warriors are sticking with the same starting five as Game 5.They are lining up with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II and Draymond Green.
