Money raised by the North Carolina Education Lottery goes, in part, to fund education in the state. What does that mean?
Money from the lottery makes up a portion of the statewide budget for schools. In 2023, the lottery shifted more than $1 billion to North Carolina schools. State lawmakers decide and dictate how that money should be used. In 2023, 48% of the money from the lottery funded school construction or renovation; 38% went toward pay for school staff.
