Goldendoodles inherit their name from their parental lineage, English Golden Retriever and Poodle. The first generation, F1, is half of each purebred for coats with a nice plush to loose waves and little to non-shed. The F1B Goldendoodle is 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever because they are the backcross of an F1 Goldendoodle and a purebred Poodle, resulting in the most allergy friendly and curliest coat.

Generations of Goldendoodles are:

  • Fl Goldendoodle: 50% Poodle & 50% Golden Retriever
  • Fl B Goldendoodle: 75% Poodle & 25% Golden Retriever
  • Fl BB Goldendoodle: 87 5% Poodle & 12.5% Golden Retriever
  • F2 Goldendoodle: 50% Poodle & 50% Golden Retriever
  • F2B Goldendoodle: 62.5% Poodle & 37.5% Golden Retriever
  • F2BB Goldendoodle: 81 25% Poodle & 18.75% Golden Retriever
  • F3 Goldendoodle or Multi-generation Goldendoodle: Several generations of Goldendoodle breeding typically backcross breeding to the Standard Poodle.
  • F2BB Goldendoodle: 81.25% Poodle & 18.75 Golden retriever is a cross between an F2B Goldendoodle (62.5% Poodle & 37.5% Golden Retriever) and a original purebred 100% Poodle. Since this is at least the second Backcross with a purebred Standard Poodle and part of the 2nd generation, it gets a second “B” in its name and is referred to as a F2BB Golden Doodle.

Goldendoodle sizes:

  • Petite
  • 14” or under in height and 25lbs or less
  • Mini
  • 14”-17” in height
  • 26-35lbs
  • Medium
  • 17”-21” in height
  • 36-50lbs
  • Standard
  • 21”or over in height
  • 51 lbs or more

The second generation of Goldendoodles, F2, like their F1 parents are half Poodle and half Golden Retriever but are sired by hybrids instead of purebreds. Though traits are different in each litter, F2 Goldendoodles have a high success for low to non-shedding. The F2B Goldendoodles are 62.5% Poodle and only 37.5% Golden Retriever with one F1 parent and one F1B parent. Generations that follow, like F3, or backcrosses, with the higher amounts of Poodle heredity will have curlier hair. Call us at (786) 942-4288 today.
